NOTE:  THERE IS AN $10.00 PROCESSING FEE PER DOG THAT MUST BE ADDED TO THE TOTAL OF ALL THE TESTS ORDERED.

Please prepare the specimen according to the directions for each test.  Pack vial(s) in a small sturdy cardboard box with padding to cushion vial(s), and ship via Post Office Express mail or Federal Express next afternoon to:

Hemopet, a non-profit organization, will submit the samples to a qualified reference lab for analysis.  Dr. Dodds will interpret the results and consult with you and/or your veterinarian by phone or by fax.

Reminder:  These lab profiles are being offered as part of a collaborative research project on thyroid, metabolism, behavioral and seizure disorders. Special prices have been assigned to these tests.  Your veterinarian will charge an additional amount to cover drawing blood, preparing the blood, record keeping and overhead.  Please respect their needs
 


THYROID PROFILE (D8T) 6-PANEL TEST

Collect 3 to 5 ml of blood.  Add to red top-tube (or serum separator tube (SST), unless measuring drug levels).  Allow to clot and centrifuge to separate serum.  DO NOT SEND UNSEPARATED BLOOD.  Transfer serum to empty red-top or plastic tube (1.5 ml serum is required for the Thyroid Antibody test).  NOTE:  If your dog is already on thyroid medication the blood should be drawn 5 hours after giving the thyroid medication.  This test includes T3, T4, Free T3, Free T4, T3 auto antibodies and T4 auto antibodies.

PHENOBARBITAL PROFILE #5624

Blood sample should be drawn 4 to 6 hours after giving medication.  1.5 ml of serum is required.  Please use red-top tube, not SST tube.  
   
Bile Acid Test - Pre and post eating

Collect 1 cc of separated serum for each sample.  Fast 12 hours before first sample.  Feed fatty meal such as 1/2 can of dog food and collect post sample 2 hours later.

THYROID, PHENOBARBITAL AND BROMIDE LEVELS (for prices, add tests separately)  
For testing of thyroid and serum levels of Phenobarbital and bromide draw a total of 6 to 7 ml of blood.  Prepare blood as noted for thyroid panel collection.  Send 2.5 ml of serum for all three tests.  Note:  Blood should be drawn 5 hours after giving thyroid medication and Phenobarbital.
